About Travelling to Memphis Tennessee in May for 3 days , Please name the top 5 attractions I must see

Travelling to Memphis Tennessee in May for 3 days , Please name the top 5 attractions I must see ?
Taking my Mom and Grandma ( she is in a wheelchair ) , places we can walk and enjoy sightseeing, handicap accessible please. Graceland (handicap access ?) and Memphis Zoo are 2 of my choices so far. Travelling from Chicago so anything north of Memphis on the way is good too. I really appreciate answers from people who live in Memphis or have travelled there recently. 5 Places I shouldn't miss would be real helpful.

Graceland, Beale street, Sun recordimg studio, and that's all I know

~~ Gracelands is a must of course (second only to the White House as the most visited house in the USA. I have been there twice and from what I recall a wheelchair in the house would be very difficult (there are stairs to climb). Normally, a mini tour bus drives visitors up to the house. They may have wheelchair access up the driveway and into the garden/pool area (where the family are buried), the stables, Elvis's office and the trophy room (all those gold records - an amazing sight). Across the street are various museums/displays of Elvis cars/bikes/toys and paraphanalia. It will still be quite a worthwhile palce to visit regardless of the w'chair. http://www.elvis.com/graceland/ ~~ Many museums of interest are located in Memphis, including the National Civil Rights Museum, built around the former Lorraine Motel where Martin Luther King, Jr. was shot dead. http://www.civilrightsmuseum.org/ ~~ You need to visit Beale Street, there you'll find The Memphis Walk of Fame, a public exhibit modelled after the Hollywood Walk of Fame. But it is designated exclusively for Memphis musicians, singers, writers, and composers. Blues clubs and restaurants line Beale Street and are major tourist attractions in Memphis. Festivals and outdoor concerts periodically happen on the street and its surrounding areas. It is a great historic place to walk around. http://www.bealestreet.com/home.html ~~ Also visit Mud Island (not actually an island), only a mile or so from downtown. It is accessible by monorail, by foot (via a bridge), by ferry, or car. There is a museum on Mud Island also, with a replica steamboat. http://www.mudisland.com/ ~~ A great way to relax for a day in natural; surroundings is to be enjoyed at the Lichterman Nature Center. Perfect for family outings, the nature center includes a visitors center, nature store, special events pavilion and lawn, nature trails and amphitheater and lake boardwalks. http://www.memphismuseums.org/nature.htm I've included links to the official sites of all these Memphis attractions for you. You might find further information about wheelchair access on them, or contact them regarding it. Lastly, this is the link to the city's website, you will find more places of interest on it: http://www.cityofmemphis.org/framework.aspx?page=1 Enjoy your visit.

About Airfare and hotel packages from Memphis, TN to Japan for December travel

Airfare and hotel packages from Memphis, TN to Japan for December travel?
I am looking for any information on airfare and hotel packages from Memphis, TN to Japan (not necessarily Tokyo) for travel from mid December (Dec 15 or so) to the end of December/very early January (Jan 1/2). A good friend of mine would be meeting me in Japan from Guam, so the hotel would be shared, but the airfare would only be for one adult. Would it be best to go through a travel agency for something like this, or are there useful/genuinely helpful websites for the purpose? We (both men) do not mind staying in a traditional inn/we also do not need the Holiday Inn at ridiculous prices. We are, of course, looking to experience authentic Japan at this time of the year, with the understanding that Christmas is not recognized as a national holiday and that it is very commercialized. Thanks!

You will get better advice through a travel agent. They have a wide variety of packages and will save you a lot of time. People think they can save lots of money doing it themselves online, but this is not necessarily so.

Was there a particular wholesale supplier that they booked this vacations through such as Apple Vacations? If so you may find it in your best interest to contact them directly. If you know who the travel insurace provider is you may also contact them. Check all your documents. I am not sure the details of the extra charges but if you agreed to the charges when you checked out it is unlikely you will be able to get any refund. In the future review all your documents and ask if there will be any additional charges at check in and review all charges prior to check out. If you have any issues ask to see the manager to have it rectified or at the very least explained to you. I know from experieve that taxes and fees variy from hotel to hotel, country to country and we do our best to tell our customers what they are paying for but unfortunatly things like this can fall through the cracks. I hope it all works out for you and I hope my answer helps. BC Travel Company

About traveling to Memphis, what is the best part of town to stay in

Traveling to Memphis, what is the best part of town to stay in?
I am tentatively planning a trip to Memphis and was wondering what is the best part of town to try and get my hotel in? Is there a part of town that I definitely should NOT stay in? On expedia.com it divides all the hotels into areas: Downtown Memphis, Collierville, Cordova, East Memphis, West Memphis, Arkansas, Memphis International Airport, and Southaven. Which one of this areas should I shoot for? Any help would be greatly appreciated. And if there is anything else I need to know please feel free to let me know. Thanks so much!

If you're driving Downtown Memphis is not so great for parking but you are close to the tourist sights of Memphis. Collierville is a suburb that is a bit far from everything. Cordova is a sub too but close to the interstate and has lots of chain stores and shops. West Memphis is Arkansas and Southaven is Mississippi, both are far off from doing stuff in Memphis. I would avoid the airport area, not a great part of town.

Travel to Cancun Memphis to Cancun All-inclusive July 4?
I have June 27 - July 5 off of work and want to go with my wife to Cancun for 5 nights during that period. I would like an all-inclusive place. I want the best bang for my buck. I do want a nice place. I need suggestions for a nice place.. but under 2k 1.5k would be great.

You can check out the sandoshotels.com either the caracol resort or the playacar beach resort. I have been living in the rivera maya area for seven years now and playa del carmen is nicer than cancun for the beaches if you are planing on going to the beach much. and for you and your wife i can get you in for 5 nights 6 days for 699 for the two of you. If you add your airfare this price will beat anything you can find on expida.

Hello Clay... Well if you would like a nice place in Cancun I can offer you a couple of suggestions. The Riu chain of hotels in Cancun are excellent. There are three of them, but I'll get to that later. The Royal Cancun is a brand new hotel that opened up in Feb. of 2007 and is currently the choice for couples like yourself. It is an amazing hotel and again it is perfect for a husband and wife to "get away" for a little while and have a romantic time and also enjoy all the Cancun has to offer at the same time. Beautiful beaches and great food! Back to the Riu hotels... there are three and they are Riu Cancun, Riu Palace Las Americas, and Riu Caribe. The nice thing about these three hotels is that they offer an exchange policy since they are sister hotels... meaning if you stay at Riu Cancun or Riu Palace you can go to each hotel and eat, drink, use the pools, beaches, etc.. Riu Palace Las Americas would be your best bet if you were to choose a Riu hotel. It's very elegant and more for couples as for the other two Riu hotels are more of a party type atmosphere. So, again they are interchangeable... you just have to sleep in the one you booked, but with the all-inclusive package you are free to visit the other Riu hotels and use their amenities. Another option that is also a choice to consider would be Sun Palace. It's a couples only resort that is on the south beach of Cancun, which means the south part of the beach is more quiet and relaxing and you still have the amazingly blue, turquoise waters and white sand beaches and you will still be in the hotel zone. I will give you some links to check out and you can see for yourself some of the resorts I have mentioned. You seem like a nice person and I love Cancun so I want to help you out as much as possible. Cancun is, in my opinion, the greatest place in the world. A site that I like to use is called Tripadvisor.com..... it's a great site to see resorts first hand. You can look at photos and get reviews from real people whom have stayed there... at any resort in the world. I was going to try to find you a deal, but applevacations is currently down right now. Usually you can get great deals from them and especially now since the economy is bad. So, keep trying them as well... but here are some links to get you started... I wish you the best of luck in finding a hotel.... if you need ANY help or want any more suggestions please feel free to send me and e-mail through this site (yahoo/answers) and I will be happy to help you out more.... Good luck to you and enjoy your stay in Cancun.... you will have the time of your lives!!!!!!

About where's a TRAVEL DESTINATION between Nashville & Memphis

Where's a TRAVEL DESTINATION between Nashville & Memphis?
I'd like to find a nice B&B, cabin, lake, or somewhere charming to stay on Saturday night about 1/2 way b't Nashville and Memphis, TN along Interstate 40. Any suggestions?

There are a handful of state parks between Nashville and Memphis - I'm not sure how far you're willing to drive from I-40. You can find out some information by visiting www.tennessee.gov and clicking on the west tennessee link located on the left side bar. This gives a listing of all the state parks as well as local tourism. If you're brave, it may pay you to pick a county, stop at the local chamber of commerce and ask them where a B&B is. Or do a Web search for west Tennessee bed and breakfast locations.

lots os places between Nashville and memphis ...if you were looking to stay 2 nights this would be a good site www.vrbo.com rentals by owner however they have a nightly rate but they also have a cleaning fee.. you might could call and get a better deal.. nunnley is between nashville and memphis and so is pickwick on this site... We have stayed at the natchez trace State park. They have a lodge and cabins and it is secluded and absoulutly beautiful it is about half way between nashville and memphis... also Jackson Tn has a Bed and breakfast on the main Strip but I do not remeber the name of it..I think it was called highland place you may look up B& B on yahoo search for Tn and see what you come up with...Good luck on your stay...

About Memphis travel question

Memphis travel question?
If we stay in a hotel by Beale Street will it be easy to get to Graceland?
Other - United States - 3 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
You should stay at the Heartbreak Hotel, that would be the easiest, closest hotel!
2 :
Beale Street and Graceland aren't close to each other, if that is what you mean. Driving isn't a problem though. Easy to get to if you have decent directions. In the evening, Beale Street is a nightmare (driving), so you'll want to make sure you are back on Beale Street before the chaos starts (think Bourbon Street in New Orleans). There is also a shuttle that can take you to Graceland, Sun Records, Staxx, and somewhere else, but I don't remember if this was availalbe to anyone outside the guests staying at the Heartbreak Hotel - might be worth looking into though.
3 :
The best Choice for the Beale Street area is the Peabody Hotel. Within blocks of the Nightclubs and very comfortable rooms. Watch for the ducks in the Lobby its the hotels signature. Graceland is on the outskirts of town maybe 2 miles away. Have fun.

About whats the CHEAPEST way to travel from NYC to Memphis Tennesee

Whats the CHEAPEST way to travel from NYC to Memphis Tennesee?
The plane tickets are ridiculous sometimes. And I am wondering if maybe there is a dirt cheap airline that i may not know about. Forget the bus thats like sitting for close to two days. Anyway if there are any flight booking tricks that you guys may know between the two destinations, let me know.

try spirit airlines

Try Amtrak. Memphis is a really expensive city to fly into due to airport fees or something. I have to fly there and can never find cheap tickets. Good luck.
3 :
stand by.....you get to go if the is a cancellation
4 :
Make yourself a pair of wings
5 :
If you fly out of Newarlk Liberty (EWR) you could pay close to US$250.00 if you book tweek in advance with US Air. Set back is they have a 75 minute lay over so you would take 4 hours to land (if no weather at computer delay) in TN. https://www.orbitz.com/Secure/ViewFlightInformation?gcid=C11287x059&WT.mc_ev=click&WT.mc_id=e28&retrieveParams=true&z=49b6&r=2&z=49b8&r=4&lastPage=interstitial
6 :
maybe you can build a crate and ship yourself to mEMphis. it would be an adventure.
7 :
The best advice I can give you is to BOOK EARLY. My favorite places for tickets are: cheapoair.com and cheaptickets.com they literally have some of the lowest prices I've seen, and I fly from NY to Florida (with a connection, sometimes in Atlanta (once in Memphis)) about once every two months to visit my boyfriend. Once I book those tickets, I call up the airline that I went with, and pick out my seats, etc.

About can you travel by train from Memphis to St louis

Can you travel by train from Memphis to St louis?
I'm going to six flags in st louis this summer, and I live near memphis. Does the train in memphis travel to St Louis? I have no idea how trains work, but I've been told it's a cheap way to get where you need to go, and better than taking the bus.

well you can but is not cheap one routing has you taking a train part way then a bus plus you will leave at 10:45pm have to change to bus at 3:00am in the morning at Carbondale, IL (CDL) Station News PT7H20M Duration: 4 hr, 31 min tthen you would be on a bus for 2 hours.. that routing will cost you $82.00 other routings have you changing train in chicago which will cost you anyway from 137.00 to 161.00
2 :
Yes. Amtrak runs there. You can take the City of New Orleans 58, then transfer at Chicago to Texas Eagle 321 to Saint Luis if you want to spend 161 bucks. You can also City of New Orleans from Memphis to Carbondale and from Carbondale take a bus to your destination for 81 bucks.
