Great things to do while you're in Memphis: The Sam-Cooper area in Midtown is good for a day you want to stroll around and shop in unique boutiques. We also have the Stax Museum of Soul (much more than just a museum), The Memphis Zoo and Aquarium (with pandas) and Sun Studios. Great malls for you to try are Wolfchase Galleria, The Oak Court Mall, and The Peabody. Great restaurants would include Rendezvous, Hard Rock Cafe, The Pier, Huey's, Blues City Cafe, etc. Great bars include Celtic Crossing, Silky O' Sullivans, and Flying Saucer. Great hotels include: The Peabody, Holiday Inn Select, The Madison Come and have fun! http://www.memphistravel.com

About thinking of travelling to Memphis

Thinking of travelling to Memphis?
What is there to do in Memphis aside from clubbing on Beale street and Graceland?

Don't miss Mud Island and the Pink Palace. There are also tours in The Pyramid and the best Bar-B-Que in America

What ages are the travellers? For younger ones, I've heard the "Ride the Ducks" tours are fun. Older ones, check out Sun Studio - where so many greats got their start, the Stax museum and the Rock & Soul Museum, and the National Civil Rights Museums (built from the motel where MLK was assassinated) are also must-sees. Definitely eat some 'cue - Local favorites include Corky's and the Rendezvous. There is great higher-end dining - Felicia Suzanne's, Erling Jensen, Stella are some of my favorites. Any other topics of particular interest to you? Enjoy!

The clubbing scene in Memphis is stunningly mediocre. Clubs don't stay good for very long there. The word gets out and all the yokels from the surrounding towns ruin it. (Most tourists miss Hollywood Rayford's downtown, which is probably one of the best places for clubbing.) Senses, which was fun for about six months, is on Poplar around Midtown and might have something going on - they have themes on different nights. During the warmer months, they have the Rooftop Party at the Peabody. Most of the people are too dressed up to have much fun there. If you want BBQ go to a small hole in the wall for a real experience. Triple AAA baseball, anyone? Consider other destinations.

Travelling to Memphis Tennessee in May for 3 days , Please name the top 5 attractions I must see ?
Taking my Mom and Grandma ( she is in a wheelchair ) , places we can walk and enjoy sightseeing, handicap accessible please. Graceland (handicap access ?) and Memphis Zoo are 2 of my choices so far. Travelling from Chicago so anything north of Memphis on the way is good too. I really appreciate answers from people who live in Memphis or have travelled there recently. 5 Places I shouldn't miss would be real helpful.

Graceland, Beale street, Sun recordimg studio, and that's all I know

~~ Gracelands is a must of course (second only to the White House as the most visited house in the USA. I have been there twice and from what I recall a wheelchair in the house would be very difficult (there are stairs to climb). Normally, a mini tour bus drives visitors up to the house. They may have wheelchair access up the driveway and into the garden/pool area (where the family are buried), the stables, Elvis's office and the trophy room (all those gold records - an amazing sight). Across the street are various museums/displays of Elvis cars/bikes/toys and paraphanalia. It will still be quite a worthwhile palce to visit regardless of the w'chair. http://www.elvis.com/graceland/ ~~ Many museums of interest are located in Memphis, including the National Civil Rights Museum, built around the former Lorraine Motel where Martin Luther King, Jr. was shot dead. http://www.civilrightsmuseum.org/ ~~ You need to visit Beale Street, there you'll find The Memphis Walk of Fame, a public exhibit modelled after the Hollywood Walk of Fame. But it is designated exclusively for Memphis musicians, singers, writers, and composers. Blues clubs and restaurants line Beale Street and are major tourist attractions in Memphis. Festivals and outdoor concerts periodically happen on the street and its surrounding areas. It is a great historic place to walk around. http://www.bealestreet.com/home.html ~~ Also visit Mud Island (not actually an island), only a mile or so from downtown. It is accessible by monorail, by foot (via a bridge), by ferry, or car. There is a museum on Mud Island also, with a replica steamboat. http://www.mudisland.com/ ~~ A great way to relax for a day in natural; surroundings is to be enjoyed at the Lichterman Nature Center. Perfect for family outings, the nature center includes a visitors center, nature store, special events pavilion and lawn, nature trails and amphitheater and lake boardwalks. http://www.memphismuseums.org/nature.htm I've included links to the official sites of all these Memphis attractions for you. You might find further information about wheelchair access on them, or contact them regarding it. Lastly, this is the link to the city's website, you will find more places of interest on it: http://www.cityofmemphis.org/framework.aspx?page=1 Enjoy your visit.

About Airfare and hotel packages from Memphis, TN to Japan for December travel

Airfare and hotel packages from Memphis, TN to Japan for December travel?
I am looking for any information on airfare and hotel packages from Memphis, TN to Japan (not necessarily Tokyo) for travel from mid December (Dec 15 or so) to the end of December/very early January (Jan 1/2). A good friend of mine would be meeting me in Japan from Guam, so the hotel would be shared, but the airfare would only be for one adult. Would it be best to go through a travel agency for something like this, or are there useful/genuinely helpful websites for the purpose? We (both men) do not mind staying in a traditional inn/we also do not need the Holiday Inn at ridiculous prices. We are, of course, looking to experience authentic Japan at this time of the year, with the understanding that Christmas is not recognized as a national holiday and that it is very commercialized. Thanks!

You will get better advice through a travel agent. They have a wide variety of packages and will save you a lot of time. People think they can save lots of money doing it themselves online, but this is not necessarily so.
